Car hire costs branded ‘extortionate’

MORE THAN 45% of hire car users described hidden costs such as insurance and fuel as extortionate, according to a new survey. 200 UK consumers aged over 30 and earning more than £20,000 per annum were quizzed for the survey, conducted on behalf of Carhiremarket.com, with over 45% agreeing that hidden costs for insurance and fuel were extortionate. Users cited greater transparency or an all-inclusive upfront price as a more desirable option.

JLR strong sales drive Tata Motors profits Jaguar Land Rover sales rose 41 per cent in the last quarter to £3.75 billion with profits of £440 million, propping up Tata’s domestic decline. When Tata bought Jaguar Land Rover from Ford back in 2008 for $2.3 billion it offered promise for the future, but most analysts thought Tata had made a big mistake buying JLR for so much, just as the world economy started to slip ion to the near depression we’re still fighting. But the analysts were wrong.

Motor industry backs EU membership

MOTOR MANUFACTURERS have given strong backing for the UK staying in the European Union, citing benefits including business links and free movement of labour. A survey by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that 92% of automotive firms believed that staying in the EU would be best for their business, although most wanted to see reforms. The SMMT said its study showed how EU membership benefited the industry, such as access to a single market and funding for research and development.
