F1: Bahrain Grand Prix back on – India Grand Prix now in December
Sun, 05 Jun 20112011 Bahrain Grand Prix - back on in October The start of the F1 Circus this year was put back after the Arab Spring made the Gulf Kindom of Bahrain a less than suitable venue for something as frivolous as Formula One, leading to the postponement of the 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix. But now it seems the Bahranians are convinced they’ve put a lid on the populist move to topple their regime (how they’ve done that is debatable), so the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council met on Friday and reinstated the Bahrain Grand Prix for 30th October. That date was originally supposed to be the date of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, but that too has been pushed back and will now take place at the end of the season, at the same time as the FIA Annual General Assembly and Prize-Giving Gala on December 11th.
Europe's road train technology ready for testing
Wed, 24 Nov 2010Work is accelerating at Europe's project to let clusters of cars drive together in convoy on motorways - with no input from the driver. The so-called Sartre project today issued a new video showing how its work is developing. Ah, that'll be the Europe-wide Sartre road safety project. It stands for Safe Road Trains for the Environment and is part-funded by the European Commission.
Tokyo motor shows: past, present and future
Thu, 20 Aug 2009By Tim Pollard Motor Shows 20 August 2009 09:30 As bets in this topsy-turvy, unpredictable industry go, it’s a banker: of all the motor shows on the global calendar, the Tokyo exhibit is always the barmiest. Although the Chinese shows are rising in importance – and amusement value – there’s something peculiarly bonkers about the biannual Japanese bash held in downtown Tokyo. So strange is the exhibition at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City to westerners, that you don’t bat an eyelid at talking cars, vehicles with feelings, or cars designed for dogs.
