UK 2011 car sales analysis: winners and losers

The UK car market fell 4.4% in 2011 to its worst year for at least a decade. Brits bought 1,941,253 vehicles last year as private motorists put off that new car purchase and stuck with their existing wheels or went secondhand. Retail sales took the brunt of the fall, with a 14% collapse on 2010's figures.

Mercedes has launched a website to promote the SLS AMG Gullwing As well as the pictures we also had the SLS AMG Press Release for those who want every nut and bolt detail put together by Mercedes. But now Mercedes has gone one better, and put up a Mercedes SLS AMG Website (well, a micro-site anyway) so those that are mesmerised by Mercedes’ 21st century recreation of the legendary 300SL can get their fix of all things SLS between now and 2011 when the SLS is likely to hit the roads. The website’s not a proper configurator as such, rather a complete encyclopedia of all things SLS –  from technology to interior – with lots of images and detail.

2012 Ford Focus: A different kind of test drive for consumers

Ford is rolling out a fairly simple idea in August to get consumers interested in the 2012 Ford Focus--drive it. But instead of the usual dealership experience, where potential buyers are often accompanied by a sales person, Ford is now pitching the new Focus to customers on more neutral turf, which the aim of highlighting the technological and handling prowess of the car. The program is being billed as “Start more than a car.
