Driving the Chevy Volt isn't special, and that's good

We've had our first taste of the drive system under development for General Motors' pioneering Chevrolet Volt, piloting a test mule based on the Chevrolet Cruze at the company's Warren (Mich.) Technical Center, and it left us hungering for more. 6 new Jaguar Lightweight E-Types on the way Even in 1963, car makers made ‘special editions’ of production cars, and one such car was the Jaguar Lightweight E-Type, a lightweight version of the then new production E-Type designed to take Jaguar racing. This was in the days before carbon fibre panels, so Jaguar built many of the body panels from aluminium and fitted an aluminium block version of the 3.8 litre engine from the production E-Type with 300bhp (55bhp more than the road car), fuel injection and a ZF 5-speed gearbox. The Lightweight E-Type wasn’t a spectacular success on the track, and Jaguar ended up building just 12 of the original planned run of 18.

JAPANESE premium car maker Lexus is to mark its attendance at next week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed by unveiling its latest sports coupe, the RC F. Due for launch in 2015, the RC F’s public debut won’t be restricted to a static display, as the car will also be driven up the famous Goodwood hill over the course of the festival weekend. At the car’s heart is a 5.0-litre, 450 horsepower petrol V8 motor, while trick electronics ensure its remains stable despite the considerable power available at the driver’s disposal.
