Ford's legendary Mustang turns 50

THE ICONIC Ford Mustang has reached its 50th birthday and the largest gathering of racing models ever in the UK is being planned to mark the occasion. More than 25 race-prepared Mustangs are being assembled for the Silverstone Classic event on 25-27 July. Among the cars entered for the race there are several famous models from the cars early days in the 1960s, as well as many that are regularly raced today in historic competitions.

End of Maybach may jump-start Mercedes S-class convertible

If the brand follows its usual practice, the convertible would come out a year or two after the sedan. As you can’t have failed to notice, with a few exceptions from Italy, big cylinder engines are on the way out in favour of more efficient, and more frugal, forced induction engines with fewer cylinders. But it’s starting to look like Mercedes may be bucking the trend with slightly surprising plans to take a V12 version of the new SL to the New York Auto Show next month – the Mercedes SL 65 AMG.
