Lotus Europa becomes Proton Lekir
Tue, 07 Dec 2010The Lotus Europa-based Proton Lekir Concept Lotus tried to make the 2006 Lotus Europa fulfil the same role in its lineup the original Lotus Europa did in the sixties – a bigger version of the main range. In the ’60s it worked – to a degree – but the 21st century iteration of the Europa was not a huge success. The trouble with the Europa was that buyers seemed to perceive it as what it was – a stop-gap before the Lotus Evora arrived.
2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition sells out in quick sticks
Sat, 06 Sep 2014The new Volvo XC90 First Edition (pictured) is all sold out Last weekend we revealed details of the 2015 Volvo XC90 First Edition, a massive spec XC90 created by Volvo to launch the new XC90. And, despite a hefty £68,000 price tag, the entire run of 1,927 First Editions sold out in just 47 hours, with the majority reserved in the first hour. That 1,927 First editions – a number that represents the year Volvo was founded – is total availability for the world market, but 55 UK buyers are on the list and will get their cars in April 2015.
McLaren MP4-12C gets the axe
Fri, 04 Apr 2014Production of the McLaren 12C is dead. That's according to a letter sent by CEO Mike Flewitt to owners that read in part, “The final piece of news I wanted to share with you is regarding 12C production, which we have decided to cease in light of the success of 650S. The new car has been so well received since its unveiling at the Geneva motor show (we already have a six-month order bank), we will focus all our capacity at the McLaren Production Centre on 650S.” This represents a turnaround for the company that just a few days ago said the 650S would slot between the 12C and P1 in the lineup, and that both would continue.
