Here is a set of 6 synchro rings for the DB gearbox as used in the DB4 and early DB5.  These look almost new but have a story (or two).  Four of them came out of a newly rebuilt gearbox done by another shop.  When the car came here it had no synchro action on any gear.  The reason was that they rebuilt an early box with shallow slots on the synchros and bought new synchros with deep slots which are all that is available.  When you do this you have to replace the short saddles that go in the slots with the later long ones otherwise the synchros are not pressed into action.  We were not taking any chances when we redid the box so we used all new synchros.  So four of these are really essentially brand new.  I think the story on the other two was similar but can't really remember.  As these cost about $500 each when they are available I don't want to throw them away but also don't want to use them here in the shop where the customer is paying for brand new parts.  The "threads" inside all have plenty of meat and don't show any signs of wear.  These are the same for 1,3, and 4 but different for 2 as the direction of the "threads" is reversed.  I assume most of these are for 1,2, and 4 and maybe a couple for 2 but you will have to figure that out.

1975 JC Whitney catalog: A bonanza of aftermarket Volkswagen goodies

Fri, 11 Apr 2014

Back before there was the Internet, or even big car-parts chain stores, there was the JC Whitney catalog. Printed on cheap, pulpy paper and featuring tens of thousands of tiny, hand-drawn illustrations, these thick books gave me many hours of enjoyment in the early 1980s, as I fantasized about how I'd modify my incredibly sketchy and hooptified '58 Beetle. Now I've picked up a 1975 JC Whitney catalog, and the Volkswagen section is even better than I remembered!

VR Chevrolet Camaro (2010): the UK's Camaro

Sat, 31 Oct 2009

By Jonny Smith First Official Pictures 31 October 2009 20:47 When GM uncloaked their Camaro retro remake at the 2006 Detroit auto show, the domestic audience understandably adored it. That muscle car concept is now a showroom reality, but any plans of bringing a right-hook version to South African, Aussie or Brit shores have been quashed – presumably due to low-volume sales and GM’s moth-eaten wallet.Much like a Mustang or Challenger, if you live in Britain and want a Camaro, you have to settle for a specially imported left-hooker. Come January 2010, when these rendered images of the VR Camaro will be a reality, UK customers won’t have to worry about doing any of the importation or UK-spec work.

Lotus Evora S revealed UPDATE: Evora S uses a supercharger

Fri, 27 Aug 2010

The Lotus Evora S gets unveiled ahead of Paris Update: We’ve had emails and Tweets suggesting that the Evora S may not use a Supercharger to gain its extra horses. TBH, the press release makes no mention of a S/C and the power increase is less than we’d expected. So we checked with Lotus and we can confirm that the Evora S does have a supercharger.
