Balmar 70-90 Series 90 AMP alternator.

3.15" Dual Foot mount for Yanmar and others.

I bought this alternator to use as a second alternator on a Perkins 4108 using an old refrigeration compressor mount but the alignment of the refer mount put the pulley about 3/4" off and I decided against spending hundreds of dollars to fabricate a new mount. This alternator will fit most Yanmar diesels

The new price of this was just over $700 plus tax.

From Balmar:

Balmar’s 7-Series, dual internally fanned alternators are an ideal solution for improved charging performance on a wide range of marine gasoline or diesel engines. Available in outputs ranging from 80-amp to 110-amps, 7-Series alternators support 12-volt battery banks of up to 500 amp hours. Designed for use with Balmar Max Charge or ARS-5 multi-stage voltage regulators, 7-Series models offer low cut in and rotate at speeds up to 18,000 rpm. 7-Series alternators are available in three mounting configurations; a 3.15” saddle mount that’s typical of Yanmar engines, a single 1” Motorola style foot and 2” Delco style mounting foot. Because of their ability to spin safely at high rotation speeds, 7-Series alternators are uniquely capable of supporting the demands of high performance marine engines -- so they are an excellent choice for use on wakeboard boats, ski boats and other trailer boats equipped with inboard gasoline engines, as well as most marine diesel engines, in applications where stereo systems, auxiliary lighting and other large electrical loads dictate larger capacity battery banks and charging systems.

Jaguar XF Sportbrake: An inside look at the Sportbrake’s design +video

Mon, 12 Mar 2012

Jaguar XF Sportbrake - an inside look at the design Jaguar design boss Ian Callum and Studio Director Wayne Burgess walk us through the new XF Sportbrake and its design. We’ve had endless stuff on the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake over the last few months – and even more since Jaguar officially revealed the XF Sportbrake ahead of its Geneva debut – so we thought we’d had a bit of ‘Sportbrake Overload’ going on, however good we think the new XF is. So when we got this video of Jaguar design boss Ian Callum and Studio Director Wayne Burgess doing a talking-heads walkthrough on the Sportbrake we thought we might pass.

McLaren P1 Nurburgring record time is…a fiction for designers inspiration

Fri, 24 May 2013

The source for the story was an image taken from a Chinese website showing the McLaren logo and a time board showing the P1 as having done a lap of the Nurburgring in 6:33s. The image was real, but the story wasn’t. It seems the image was part of a ‘Mood Board’ McLaren put together when they were designing the P1 to inspire their designers with what could be possible, and that’s found its way on to the Interwebs in China.

2012 Volvo S60 & XC60 R-Design get more oomph

Thu, 21 Apr 2011

Volvo V60 R-Design - finally, more get up and go We’re quite partial to the Volvo S60 (actually, we’re even more partial to the Volvo V60) and we like how Volvo’s R-Design pack makes a real impact without making the car look like a boy racer’s wet dream. What’s also nice – in this age of parsimony – is that even if you opt for a lowly diesel version you can still have a Volvo that looks like it gets there in a hurry, even if it doesn’t. But our preference is always for a bit more power, especially if all the visual cues make you smile in anticipation, so we have been know to bemoan the lack of any sort of power boost – even as an add-on option – on Volvo’s R-Design cars.
