In an exclusive preview, the firm’s director of infotainment and telematics Ralf Herrtwich explained that in-car CD players and sat-navs are a thing of the past. In the future Mercedes drivers will do everything over the internet.

With a new series of Top Gear starting last week – Top Gear does Romania being the main piece – we suddenly remembered that you all love Top Gear as much as we do when we had tens of thousands of you arriving to have a look at the piece we did earlier this year when the boys were actually in Romania. With BIK rates set based on CO2 emissions and list price, it’s hard to find a way to beat the system. Even opting for a diesel car doesn’t help because, despite much better economy on the whole from diesels than petrol engined cars, HMRC adds an extra 3% to your BIK rate because diesels emit more of the stuff that matters – particulates and NOx – than a petrol-engined car.
