Jaguar F-Type spied testing – and it’s a 5.0 litre V8
Thu, 17 May 2012Jaguar F-Type V8 spotted testing
The Jaguar F-Type has been spotted out testing ahead of a launch in 2013, and it’s a range-topping 5.0 litre V8.
It’s a bit difficult to say the Jaguar F-Type has been ‘Spied’ testing when Jaguar has already been happy to supply us with their very own ‘Spy’ photos of the new F-Type. But this one’s a bit different.
The photos Jaguar gave us of the F-Type look very similar to this shot, but there’s one big difference. Jaguar’s ‘Official’ spy shots show the F-Type with a twin exhaust pipe coming out at the centre back, but this F-Type has two twin exhausts – a pair each side.
A bit of digging reveals that this is in fact the F-Type 5.0 litre V8. We’re assuming it’s supercharged as there’s little point having the naturally aspirated V8 under the F-Type’s bonnet when we already know Jaguar will be offering a blown V6 with 375bhp, so this is almost certainly the S/C with at least 500bhp.
That all dovetails nicely with our report in April that the F-Type will be offered with the 5.0 litre V8, potentially offering performance in the region of 4 seconds 0-62mph.
We had expected the V8 S/C to arrive in the F-Type well after launch, but perhaps the fact Jaguar are already out playing with a range-topping F-Type means it will be offered from the off?
