Experimental Aircraft Association - Oshkosh! World's Largest Fly-in Photo Book

Spud's notes: Even though its not about cars, I think you would enjoy this pictorial review of the Worlds Largest fly-in called "AirVenture". If you have never attended I would highly suggest you put it on your bucket list of things to do!

You're invited to EAA AirVenture - a weeklong air show so packed with aircraft that for one week Oshkosh's control tower is the busiest in the world.

Every year the skies over Oshkosh, Wisconsin, rumble with the sound of aircraft engines. It's the annual EAA AirVenture, a gathering of aviation enthusiasts like no other. The week long airshow is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) - an international organization based in Oshkosh - and is the largest of its kind anywhere in the world. EAA Oshkosh showcases the many types of aircraft that have appeared there and even offers a glimpse of the lively crowds and campgrounds.

At EAA AirVenture, hundreds of thousands of aircraft enthusiasts flock to the Wittman Regional Airport to gawk at an amazing collection of all things airborne. From handsome old canvas-covered biplanes to brawny warbirds to home-built models to massive jetliners, the traffic in the air and on the runway make the Wittman's control tower in tiny Oshkosh the busiest in the world. It's an adventure to be sure, and the highlights are all here. Organized according to aircraft types, EAA Oshkosh features:

- Warbirds

- Vintage aircraft

- Home-built aircraft

- Seaplanes

- Ultralights - EAA firsts (i.e., the F-35, all of Burt Rutan, the SR-71, etc.)

Drawing on the EAA's photo archive dating back to 1953, EAA Oshkosh brims with fascinating stories, history, and photography. Paging through it is the next best thing to actually attending the show!

THE AUTHORs
Jim Busha is the director of publications at EAA and the editor-in-chief of Sport Aviation, Warbirds, and Vintage magazines. Jim is also a contributing editor of Flight Journal and has had numerous articles published in FlyPast, Aircraft Illustrated, Classic Aircraft, and Air & Space/Smithsonian. Most recently Jim authored The Fight in the Clouds (Zenith Press, 2014) and Wings of War (Zenith Press, 2015). An avid pilot and aviation historian, Jim owns and flies a 1943 Aeronca L-3 and Stinson L-5.

Hal Bryan is EAA's Senior Editor and a lifelong, second-generation pilot and aviation geek. He's logged time in a variety of aircraft types, most of them old and weird, and he wouldn't have it any other way. He lives in Oshkosh with his wife, Muffy, and two benevolent dictators disguised as cats.

Dick Knapinski has been with the EAA staff since 1992 and has served as director of communications since 2010. He also has won numerous awards for his print and broadcast media work over the past thirty years. Knapinski is a private pilot and first attended the EAA fly-in in 1978.

Lexus IS Coupe arriving in 2014 & IS F V8 on the way

Thu, 23 May 2013

Now it looks like Lexus is going to bring the LF-CC to production life in 2014 as the Lexus IS Coupe (although there are rumours it could be the RC, but that may be for a production version of the even more appealing LF-LC as a range-topping Lexus Coupe) and equip it with the same petrol engine and hybrid options as the IS saloon. What is also in prospect is a return of the IS F – complete with sizeable V8 power – which, if it does arrive, will see the IS Coupe coming with the F engine option and making a very promising foray in to the powerful V8 Coupe market. What doesn’t seem likely is that Lexus are going to bother with a diesel option for the IS or Coupe, despite conventional wisdom saying they need a diesel option to compete in Europe because - as they’ve already demonstrated with the IS 300h – they can deliver an appealing and competitive hybrid with decent performance and price, and bring it in with under 100g/km emissions – perfect for the business market.

GM axes deal with Peugeot Citroen: how it helps Vauxhall

Sat, 14 Dec 2013

Wolfgang Rattay, Newscom, RTR Strange as it sounds, the sale of GM’s 7% share it only just bought in Peugeot is good news for Vauxhall buyers. The reason is that it is the last stage of GM’s plan to improve the plight of Opel and Vauxhall by getting rid of all the distractions and focusing on improving the cars and the marketing. The Peugeot move has to be seen in the context of GM pulling Chevrolet out of Europe only a few weeks ago.
