BMW i3 EV WILL get BMW motorcycle engine as range extender
Tue, 22 Jan 2013BMW’s head of R&D, Herbert Diess, has confirmed the BMW i3 EV will come with the option of a range extender engine. BMW’s head of R&D, Herbert Diess, has confirmed to Automotive News that when the i3 arrives in BMW showrooms at the end of 2013 it will be offered with a range extending engine as well as a pure EV. The range extender engine will be housed in the boot and is derived from a BMW motorcycle engine, and will turn the i3 from a small EV, useful only in confined city environs with a range of around 40 miles, in to a small runaround that has a range of 250 miles.
Mini John Cooper Works
Tue, 04 Mar 2008By James Foxall Motor Shows 04 March 2008 14:42 So what's new on Mini's Geneva Motor Show stand? It was all about John Cooper Works at Mini with the firm showing off the most powerful version yet of its car in hatchback and Clubman forms. Impact was diluted by official pictures being released a couple of weeks ago but in hatchback form it's still a sharp looking sporty adaptation of the regular Cooper S.
VW Taigun Compact SUV heading for production
Tue, 23 Apr 2013It was a good-looking and appealing effort from VW to tap in to the very compact SUV market, with a real family look (a Tiguan on a boil wash), peppy little 3-cylinder 1.0 litre engine delivering 108bhp and a 0-62mph of 9.2 seconds (with 60mpg economy) and enough room to carry stuff and people thanks to an extra 50mm in the wheelbase compared to the Up! Now it looks like the Taigun is heading for production after VW’s Chief designer, Klaus Bishoff, told Autoexpress that he deeply believed the Taigun would be heading for VW showrooms very soon, and could be sold in the UK and Europe as well as in emerging markets. So you can add the Taigun to the list of VW’s SUV offerings, and with new versions of the Tiguan and Touareg (perhaps based on the CrossBlue Concept) and a Polo based SUV on the way too, it looks like VW are covering all the bases.
