Smart's $99 loan deal has big balloon payment at end

Hoping to benefit from the federal cash-for-guzzlers program, Smart USA has set up a $99 monthly payment for buyers who use their $4,500 rebate. But there's a catch--and a hefty balloon payment disclosed only as a note to an asterisk in Smart's press information announcing the offer. The Smart financing is for $99 a month for 36 months, with a balloon payment of $6,667 due at the end.

Auburn spring auction includes car collector panel

Visitors to the Auburn Spring Collector Car Auction will get a treat in May when Reggie Jackson, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer; Wayne Carini, host of HD Theater's Chasing Classic Cars, and concept-car expert Joe Bortz take part in a panel discussion about the world of the collector car. GM, Ford roll out protection plans for car buyers

General Motors is following Hyundai and Ford in offering protection for car buyers who lose their jobs. A plan announced Tuesday morning called Total Confidence offers up to nine payments of up to $500 each if a car buyer loses his or her job in the first 24 months after the purchase. The plan covers loans and leases.
