This is the new second-gen Hyundai i10. Aimed directly at the VW Up, Hyundai’s new city car will take the fight to Volkswagen armed with a roomier cabin and trickle-down luxury car gadgets, like automatic climate control, a heated leather steering wheel, and cruise control. 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage pricing starts at $13,720

Mitsubishi has just announced pricing for its 2014 Mirage, not to be confused with the Cadillac Elmiraj. Mitsubishi's version -- being a bit smaller and bit cheaper -- loses a few letters and opts for conventional spelling. As you can see, this Mirage is a little different from the last time we saw back in the '90s (when it was a compact sedan) -- different to the point of being a completely different car in a completely different segment.

Diesels and turbos dominate 2014

Wards Automotive released its 20th annual top 10 list of the best engines for 2014, with turbocharged, supercharged and diesel engines claiming the top spots as well as one electric motor. To be eligible, the new or improved engine must be on sale in a production vehicle during the first quarter of 2014. This powertrain revolution features world-class engine technology so compelling that they’re actually becoming the selling points for most buyers.
