If ever there was a better looking, designed and manufactured blower and kit for a street-driven small-block Chevy, this is it! Before Holley/Weiand acquired B & M’s blower line, B & M offered this low-profile 250 cubic inch “Powercharger” driven by a 2” Gilmer (toothed) belt and pulleys—a truly professional and performing setup! The kit’s original part number was 91060.  Bolted on a SBC, topped by dual 4-barrels, the engine compartment will turn heads and keep them turned. And, with the custom-made brushed aluminum air cleaner, it might and probably will fit under your hood. Though a tight fit under my ’34 Ford’s hood, the accompanying pictures say ‘serious hot rod.’ Please note the car and engine, etc. are not included in this package

With the 39-tooth upper drive pulley that’s on the blower, the blower generated 9 pounds of boost on my 355 CID motor. Running 93 octane pump gas, it never rattled the 8:1 CR motor.

In addition to the complete blower kit are two Holley 600 cfm vacuum secondary carbs modified for use on a blower. Modifications include boost-referenced power valves, including the polished aluminum lines and -3 AN fittings running from each carb to a port in the intake manifold. The power valve restriction ports are slightly enlarged (from the stock .046 to .056). To ensure the vacuum secondaries in each carb open in unison, the tops of the vacuum canisters are ported and tapped for -3 AN fittings and line—also included in the package.

A custom Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft was ground for this blower and motor and is also included in this package. Its specs:

Intake Duration    @ .006: 288;   @ .050: 236;  Lift: .520

Exhaust Duration @ .006: 293;   @.050: 242;   Lift: .540

Lobe Separation: 113 (and 4 degree advance)

The blower and all its components, the carbs and the camshaft have less than 3,000 miles on them. The motor was never raced or over-revved. The blower case interior walls and the Teflon strips in the rotors are in like-new condition. In appearance and performance, this entire package could pass for ‘new.’

The package includes:

Polished Aluminum 250 CID Blower and Intake Manifold

Brushed Aluminum Crank Drive Pulley and Hub

39-Tooth Upper Drive Pulley (For 1.40:1 or 40% overdrive)

2” Gilmer Drive Belt

Polished Idler Pulley and Mount/Belt Tension Adjuster

Polished Dual 4-Barrel Adapter

2 Holley 600 CFM Vacuum Secondary Carbs

Boost-Referencing Plumbing/Fittings

Chrome Thermostat Housing

Blower/Manifold Hardware and Gaskets

Custom Air Cleaner with 2 K & N Filter Elements

Comp Cams Custom-Ground Hydraulic Roller Camshaft

If you’re running a SBC in your ride and want to add some serious torque and horsepower (and blower whine), and turned heads when you open your hood, this very reasonably-priced package is for you.

IMPORTANT: This blower and kit is no longer available from any manufacturer, but replacement components, pulleys and gaskets are available through Holley/Weiand.

Any questions, just ask.

Infiniti Etherea: Infiniti’s compact concept revealed in Geneva

Tue, 01 Mar 2011

Infiniti Etherea Concept Despite our gripes that Infiniti seem half-hearted about their entry in to Europe – certainly in terms of their reluctance to get the product under people’s noses –  we can’t argue they’re not developing their range to suit the European market. Good case in point is the introduction of diesel lumps across the range, although we find the new Infiniti M35h Hybrid potentially more appealing than the M30d (we’ve surprised ourselves there). And now we get a proper European-sized concept revealed in Geneva – the Infiniti Etherea Concept – which is a compact, pillarless, suicide door endowed 3-Series competitor with a 2.5 litre S/C lump connected to an electric motor and driven through a CVT ‘box.

Prices will start at £56,495, positioning the new Cadillac CTS-V just below the new Jaguar XF-R (£59,900) and comfortably undercutting German rivals such as the BMW M5 (£63,325) and Audi RS6 (a fulsome £74,550).
