Carbon-fiber parts and a software fix help create a lighter, faster Fiat

Mon, 19 Mar 2012

Chrysler Group's Mopar parts brand and Italian supplier Magneti Marelli have teamed up on a design exercise based on the 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth that shaved weight and added horsepower. The vehicle, called the Venom, has a number of carbon fiber components -- hood and side mirrors, for example -- that makes it about 200 pounds lighter than the 2,512-pound Abarth. The Venom uses software updates and additional exhaust components to boost the Abarth's standard 160-hp 1.4-liter turbocharged engine's output by as much as 25 percent.

Kia sell their 500,000th car in the UK – a cee’d ‘4’ 1.6 CRDi

Sat, 08 Jun 2013

Dale & Amy Pollard receive the keys to Kia’s 500,000th UK car Kia arrived in the UK in 1991 as a seller of budget cars, but in recent years Kia, along with sister company Hyundai, has moved very much in to the mainstream, with a range of credible cars that now sell on merit, not just price. That turn round for Kia has seen sales rising strongly to the point where they have now sold 5000,000 Kias since the marque first arrived in the UK. The milestone car is a cee’d ‘4’ 1.6 CRDi and has been delivered to a married couple in Leicester - Dale and Amy Pollard – who got a bit of special treatment from their Kia dealers - Kia Sandicliffe – at a handover ceremony attended by Stuart Wardle from Kia and Sandicliffe’s John Marsh.

Anyone who has headed to the West Country on the A303 over the past two and a half years can’t have failed to notice the building work going on at the Haynes International Motor Museum. The museum - which first opened its doors in 1985 - has been the subject of a £5 million modernisation project. But finally - some ten years after the original plans were drawn up - the new and much improved Haynes International Museum is now open to the public.
