Peel P50 and Trident back in production – the world’s smallest car

Top Gear fans will probably remember Jeremy Clarkson taking the Peel P50 – billed as the world’s smallest car ever – for a trolley round London and the BBC (we’ve published the video below to remind you). Now, with the world obsessed with small cars, a bunch of businessmen – backed by former Dragons’ Den Dragon James Caan – are putting the Peel P50 and Trident back in to production.

They took with them the usual holiday toys, but they remembered to pack a nice new Jaguar XFR, with a few mods necessary to run at Bonneville (roll cage, fire extinguishers, etc). They had a little fiddle with the ECU to derestrict it (and yield 600bhp) but, it is claimed, made no further mods apart from adding a spoiler at the back to stop the XFR taking off on the Salt Flats’ wide open spaces. New carmaker Eterniti to debut its first car at Frankfurt auto show

It's not every day that a new car company jumps into the fray, and it's even rarer that the first model it builds is a super SUV. Enter Eterniti Motors, a startup luxury brand based in London. The company says it satisfies a demand for personalized luxury from wealthy car buyers, “particularly in major cities and global wealth centers.” Apparently Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, Bentley and Spyker just aren't filling that void.
