Penske said to be considering bid for GM's Saturn

Roger Penske is considering a bid for General Motors' Saturn brand, a source familiar with the auto entrepreneur's plans said today. Penske is studying the issue but has made no proposals, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Penske, whose Penske Automotive Group dealership chain distributes Daimler AG's Smart microcars in the United States, is the second entity known to have an interest in Saturn.

The Dodge Viper special editions continue, and on Thursday a turnkey race car, called the Viper SRT10 ACR-X, broke cover. It's not street-legal and is upgraded with a slew of performance modifications aimed at racing enthusiasts. Power grows by 40 hp, to 640 hp, for the 8.4-liter V10.

NHTSA to study power-steering complaints in the Toyota Corolla

U.S. highway safety officials will begin a formal investigation into electric power steering complaints in the Toyota Corolla, a person familiar with the plan said. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study will focus on vehicles from the 2009 and 2010 model years, said the person, an agency representative who didn't want to be identified before an announcement is made.
