Camp Verde, Arizona, United States
Condition:New other (see details)

Up for auction is a Saginaw power steering conversion kit that I bought from Man-a-Fre in 2005. It was intended for FJ40 Land Cruiser 9/72 and older, with a Chevy short block installed, but I suppose it could be used for many different vehicles. I only got as far as welding the 4-Plus gearbox bracket to my frame, otherwise everything in this kit is included as it was sold to me, and I never used it. Here is what is included:
  • Rebuilt Saginaw gearbox
  • Nut and lock washer for gearbox
  • Rebuilt power steering pump
  • Power steering pump filler cap
  • Borgesen collapsible steering shaft with U-joints
  • Gm drop Pitman arm
  • Advance Adapters spud shaft (AA-716835)
  • Clamps for spud shaft
  • Advance Adapters Saginaw relay rod
  • Saginaw relay rod end (716821) to match new pitman arm
  • March pump bracket kit for V-8 (MCH-20160) with bolts, washers, spacers, and instructions
  • Aircraft quality hoses
  • Billet aluminum pulley (SUM-63975)
  • 4+Plus mounting plate (the one for the firewall, not the gearbox mounting bracket)
  • Bearing, nut, and woodruff key for steering shaft
  • Pump removal instructions and flush and bleed instructions

This is the same kit that Man-a-Fre sells for $1400 as shown here. I tried to arrange my kit the same as the kit in their picture for comparison purposes. If you compare them, you'll see the only differences are

  • My kit has one of the hoses as aluminum braided, while both of theirs are black
  • The washer counts on the pump bracket spacer kit are different
  • The gearbox mounting bracket is missing from mine (as discussed above)
  • There are two hose fittings in the Man-a-Fre picture under the pulley that were not included in my kit

NOTE 1: Just to be perfectly clear, the gearbox mounting bracket is *not included* with this kit. They can be fabbed easily or purchased separately.

NOTE 2: Just so everything is disclosed, there is some rust on the Borgeson steering shaft and the 4+Plus firewall mounting bracket (see the last picture). They are not pitted however.

Will ship in two separate boxes (free shipping!):

Box 1: 45 lb, 16x14x11
Box 2: 14 lb, 35x5.5x5.5

If you want a power steering oil cooler that matches this kit, see my other eBay post at this link .

The Frankfurt motor show 2009 review, by Ben Oliver

Wed, 16 Sep 2009

By Ben Oliver Motor Shows 16 September 2009 00:01 Taking the metro to the Frankfurt motor show, I was surrounded by men whose grey suits, lapel badges and reading matter made it obvious they were car company execs heading the same way. In previous years they probably had access to the fleets of chauffeur-driven cars that used to clog the town as they shuttled from airport to exhibition hall to hotel. But Frankfurt, like every other motor show, finds itself in reduced circumstances this year.  The Paris and Frankurt shows alternate, and the comparison with Paris this time last year is instructive.

'38 Talbot-Lago, '29 Duesenberg crowned Best in Show at Meadow Brook concours

Sun, 25 Jul 2010

French curves and a ghost from the United States' gilded luxury-making past won top honors on Sunday at the 31st Concours d'Elegance of America at Meadow Brook on a sunny afternoon north of Detroit. A 1938 Talbot-Lago 150-C teardrop coupe won Best in Show for European cars, and a 1929 Duesenberg Model J-129 Le Baron Dual Cowl Phaeton won Best in Show for Americans at the annual event, which attracts some of the most luxurious and pristine cars from around the country. The Talbot-Lago shimmered with silver paint and chrome, and already counts two smaller awards at the Pebble Beach concours to its name.

Porsche 911 cabriolet: First official photographs

Tue, 22 Nov 2011

Porsche has developed an innovative fabric and composite-plastic folding roof for the 911 cabriolet as part of a push to give it a cleaner appearance, improved aerodynamic efficiency and greater levels of refinement than its strong-selling predecessor. Pictured here officially for the first time ahead of its world premiere in January at the Detroit auto show, the new open-top 911 is planned to go on sale in North America in 2012 in Carrera cabriolet and Carrera S models. Eschewing the traditional multilayered fabric structure of the 997 series 911 cabriolet, the next model (991 series) adopts a specially developed lightweight roof that uses two fabric-skinned composite plastic panels for the upper and rear part of the structure, giving it a more uniform shape together with a tauter fit that is claimed to make it more resistant than before to buffeting at high speeds.
