Vericom VC-200 performance computer. Road & Track, Car & Driver and Motor Week, the PBS television show uses this unit. Uses military-spec precision accelerometer to compute time-to-distance, acceleration, deceleration, ET and speed at 30, 60,120, 330, 660 feet, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, calculated horsepower, reaction time, etc. Very close to real drag strip time, although usually .1-.2 seconds slower due to drag strip "run out" time. Mounts to windshield, or can also be mounted to side window for skid pad measurements. Just plug it into your cig. lighter. Also measures stopping distance and g-force. However they are heavily divided on the best way of beating the jams, according to a YouGov survey for business group London First. As many as 40% of the 1,055 adults polled said congestion would increase a lot, while 38% believed it would increase a little.

IndyCar-themed Hot Wheels will be hitting stores this month. The Indy Racing League and Mattel Inc., the maker of Hot Wheels, have agreed on a four-year deal that will produce a lineup of toy cars featuring teams and drivers. A 1:64-scale Hot Wheel is $4.99, with a 1:24 version that costs $24.99.

The race-car driver and once mayor of Salt Lake City put the Bonneville Salt Flats on the map with the many land-speed records he set there in the 1930s and 40s--some of which remain unbroken. Now, the story of Jenkins and the Salt Flats is being told in a new film, Boys of Bonneville: Racing a Ribbon of Salt.
