And so it seems – even though almost a year has passed – with the reveal today by Peugeot of what will be the world’s first diesel hybrid when the 3008 HYbrid4 starts to hit the road in 2011. The Grand Cherokee is a new model, not just a facelift although the underpinnings are carried over – albeit in spruced-up form.The 2011 model year Grand Cherokee evolves the chunky Jeep look and packs a whole load of new technology under the skin, according to Jeep. And the interior (one of the weakest points on Jeeps for years) has been improved, too.So what's new on the 2011 Grand Cherokee?Apart from those more chiselled lines that give the 4x4 quite a different character, Jeep promises better on-road dynamics thanks to the adoption of independent front and rear suspension systems and a much stiffer body structure.
Japan automakers extend shutdowns as quake impact widens
Mon, 14 Mar 2011Japan's seven big automakers are extending nationwide production shutdowns amid growing concern about supply chain interruptions, power shortages and export difficulties following the massive earthquake and tsunami that hammered northern Japan, killing thousands. Toyota Motor Corp., one of the few automakers with a major manufacturing presence in the quake zone, suspended all manufacturing--at both assembly and parts plants--on Monday and extended the shutdown through at least Wednesday as an added precaution. The company will lose output of roughly 40,000 vehicles over the three-day period, spokesman Dion Corbett said.
