In 1922, Ivan Gates organized The Gates Flying Circus.  It was considered the grand daddy of all flying air shows.  Made up of mostly WWI ex-military flyers, it captivated crowds with daredevil flight performances, wing walking and parachuting demonstrations.

My Grandfather began his aviation career barnstorming in a $250 war surplus Jenny and then later flying for the Gates Flying Circus.  Orville Wright signed my grandfather's license, license number 1000.  My father came along at a time my grandfather was buying surplus PT19s and Stearmans for a few hundred dollars.  My father continued the passion for flying and owned dozens of aircraft over the years.  My brother flew for Cole Palen's Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.  In his last few days, my father's eyes twinkled when I brought some flying magazines to his bed side.  In honor of my dad,  I'm continuing our aviation heritage.

Honda confirmed on Monday that the S2000 sports car is done after the 2009 model year. The two-seater was launched in 1999 as a 2000 model and is a favorite of enthusiasts who enjoy its slick manual transmission and tight chassis. The club racer-inspired trim, the S2000 CR, was added for the 2008 model year.

All used up: Pre-owned sales rise as consumers seek new-car alternatives

Fri, 22 May 2009

Used-car sales took a leap upward in April, and the trend is expected to continue at least until midyear as pent-up demand for affordable pre-owned vehicles jacks up at least one segment of the car marketplace. Sales of new cars continued an unabated slide toward what analysts say is a 30-year low in the United States, but used-car sales showed strength as buyers unable to finance new cars shifted their sights to less expensive used models. As a result, retailers such as the large Penske Automotive Group reported that despite an overall decline in sales in the first three months of 2009, improving used-car sales kept them in the black.
