Yamaha J500A Waverunner Jet Ski Engine Motor, 6K8, 061291, Japan

Product Details:

  • Yamaha J500A Waverunner Jet Ski Engine Motor, 6K8, 061291, Japan
  • Based on my research, this is a 500 motor, apparently used in the 500, WR500 and WJ500 Waverunners, I think starting about 1986 and running into the early 1990s.
  • This engine was brought into our liquidation store two or three years ago by its last owner as a good working engine, and has been in storage ever since (buried in the warehouse).
  • It appears to be quite clean, apparently never having been run in salt water in that I see no oxidation to the outside aside from a bit of rust on one of the spark plugs, and with just some slight oily residue down low that cleaned off with a small paper towel.
  • It came to us with the cables and parts shown attached and with the engine, and they are included.  I'm not sure, but it looks pretty complete aside from wherever cut tubing went (gas tank, etc), but please take a look at the pictures to verify for yourself.
  • It is a 2 cylinder engine with a starter and a small threaded output shaft.  I couldn't turn that shaft by hand, so I touched a battery charger's cables to the starter terminals to see if it turned over (charger was set to 12V 40A).  A few sparks later the engine seemed to have strong compression and it turned over several times, one or two strokes per try (I didn't want to hold the cables on the terminals for too long).
  • It seems to be a nice engine based on that basic testing, but it could of course have hidden problems or need some level of maintenance, repair or restoration, none of which I would know anything about, not being a mechanic.  This being the case, I am selling it as described above, possibly needing more or a lot work or parts.
  • I hunted around on the motor to see where the oil was added and drained, and didn't see a cap and a plug (just cut tubing), so I guess this engine uses some sort of remote circulating pump and reservoir type device that isn't included.  That being the case, there may be some residual oil that may come out of the engine during shipment.  I will try to bag or wrap the engine to contain it in case that happens.

Top Gear: Albania, RR Ghost, Merc S65, Mulsanne & Jonathan Ross

Top Gear arrive in Albania to test cars for plutocrats who like to drive As we said last week when Top Gear played host to Boris Becker as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car – he can’t hit the top of the leaderboard. In Boris’s case it’s not a lack of talent that stops him achieving a top time, it’s his size. He’s just too big – and too heavy – to notch up a really quick time.
