Tue, 20 Jan 2009As the 2009 Michelin Challenge Design - focusing on the search for ‘America's Next Iconic Vehicle' - drew to a close at the NAIAS in Detroit, culminating in a press preview and an exhibition of scale models, the theme for next year's competition was announced: ‘Electrifying! Beautiful, Innovative and Radiant'. While it may sound like a slogan for a new line of women's cosmetics, this theme does in fact center on the increasingly relevant field of electric vehicle (EV) design; or more specifically the need to combine sustainable powertrains with attractive, well executed design.
Google driverless cars ‘safer than humans’
Tue, 29 Oct 2013Google claims that its driverless cars are now safer than human motorists, after analysing testing data gathered over thousands of experimental miles of assessment. The Internet search giant has been developing its controversial autonomous cars for several years, adapting a fleet of 10 vehicles – including six Toyota Prius hybrids, three Lexus RX450h off-roaders and an Audi TT – to drive by themselves. 'Adam Seeks Eve' sketching competition winner announced
Wed, 26 Jun 2013The top three designs of the ‘Adam Seeks Eve‘ international sketching competition have been announced. A judging panel of six professional designers and organizer representatives – chaired by exterior chief designer of the Opel Adam Niels Loeb – selected the top three designs from over 400 submitted projects. 23-year-old Marcell Sebestyén from Hungary claimed top honors with his design, while second place went to 36-year-old Lukáš Taneček from the Czech Republic.
