McLaren Special Operations - your McLaren, your way
We reported last week that McLaren had taken a customised MP4-12C to Pebble Beach and that it heralded the start of ‘McLaren Exclusive’ to customise customer cars. We were close, but its actually McLaren Special Operations - and not McLaren Exclusive – that’s doing the customising. But the principle is the same; McLaren will do pretty much anything you want done to your McLaren – as they always have – but with the McLaren Road Car division growing all the time it will all now come under the banner of the new McLaren Special Operations division.

2012 Porsche 911 7-speed gearbox video below
Some of us are old enough – just – to remember when a 3-speed gearbox was normal. And, quite often, located on the column. Cars like the Vauxhall Cresta and Ford Zephyr had them, but they now belong to a completely different world to the one inhabited by the 7-speed manual gearbox in the new Porsche 911.

The new Fiat 500L will debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show
The Fiat 500L is heading for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and we have the first official photo of the oversized 500. We’ve reported a few times recently on what we now know to be the Fiat 500L. It initially seemed that Fiat would use the ElleZero code name for the production car, but we subsequently learnt that, despite only a passing resemblance to the 500, it was to be the Fiat 500L (for long).
