                                        48162 Battery Isolator 200A

For vehicles with two batteries, these devices electrically isolate the batteries to prevent the battery with the higher charge from draining into that with the lower charge. In addition, both batteries can be charged simultaneously from one source. Use general purpose battery isolators for 12-36V DC negative ground systems.

The electronic components are embedded to give excellent protection from adverse conditions, such as contamination and vibration. The integral heat sink provides efficient heat dissipation. The amp rating of each item is the maximum alternator rating. Most alternators on new vehicles have an integral electronic voltage regulator that requires the use of the 4-stud battery isolator. The small 4th stud is for connection to a circuit switched by the ignition switch. The newer alternators were first introduced by Delco and are therefore sometimes called ‘Delcotron-type alternators’. A 4-stud battery isolator can be used with older pattern alternators (in this case the 4th stud will remain unconnected), but a 3-stud battery isolator cannot be used with the Delcotron-type alternator.

Battery isolators also have a ‘per leg’ rating which indicates the maximum current it can deliver to either battery. All Cole Hersee battery isolators have a per leg rating equal to half the alternator rating. Thus the 48162 with a rating of 200A has a per leg rating of 100A per leg.

200A at 12V DC, 12-36V.

Camaro, Sonic fill the Chevrolet stand at SEMA

Tue, 01 Nov 2011

Custom Camaro and Sonic models lead the way at the Chevroletstand at SEMA this year, with a green electroluminescent Hot Wheels Camaro leading the pack. The paint on the Hot Wheels car was not actually plugged in to an electrical source to make it glow so bright, but it sure seemed like it was. The idea was to get the same metallic finish that shined on the first 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Camaro, one of the original 16 die-casts that debuted from Mattel in 1968.

Honda reveals Urban SUV concept

Tue, 11 Dec 2012

Honda's compact Urban SUV concept has been teased in a sketch ahead of its unveiling at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. From the sketch we can see pronounced wheel arches with a feature line flowing into the profile where it meets the concept's most striking aspect – an upwards-rising feature line that stretches until it meets the D-pillar. Although other details are sparse, the Japanese carmaker does say that the Urban SUV concept's interior is designed to maximize space using its center-tank layout.

The Britalian Job: MINI remakes the Italian Job for London 2012

Tue, 12 Jun 2012

MINI has done a remake of the Italian Job – dubbed the ‘Britalian Job – to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics. MINI always turns up interesting promo videos (not always good, but always interesting) so with BMW sponsoring the London 2012 Olympics it’s no surprise they’ve had their camcorders out. The result is something MINI are calling the ‘Britalian Job’, an homage to the classic 1960s Italian Job with the original Mini and starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward (and Benny Hill), although in truth it’s more like an homage to the later version with Charlize Theron.
