By First Official Pictures 09 January 2008 11:19 Looking squat, mean and aggressive (the car, not the model), this is the new Mercedes CLC. And although the CLC is based on the current C-class-derived Sports Coupe, Merc hopes that the 1100 new or revised components will make the car a serious challenger to the BMW 1-series coupe. It certainly looks slicker than the current car, and with C-class inspired styling it looks smarter than today's stumpy model.

The Range Rover Evoque 5 Door Video Although it’s good to see Land Rover being proactive with releasing information in response to web activity (the single image of the 5 door Evoque they released after it got papped at Paris, for example) we wonder if they’re in danger of having no dry powder left for the offical reveal of the 5 door Evoque at the LA Motor Show next month. Yesterday we had a decent gallery of photos of the 5 door Evoque and a press release to go with it. True, the press release didn’t tell us a lot more than we already knew, but it did give us information about the extra room in the 5 door and the MagneRide suspension.

Peter Arcadipane has joined BAIC as its new design director. Based at its new hi-tech design facility in Beijing, China, he oversees a team of around 130 designers. The Australian designer, formerly of Mercedes-Benz, has been challenged to steer state-owned BAIC towards a more coherent and strategic position within China, with its chairman wanting to take the carmaker more upmarket.
