Toyota EV concept confirmed for Detroit 2009 By Ben Pulman First Official Pictures 23 December 2008 16:48 Toyota has (succinctly) announced that it will unveil a new battery-electric concept car at the Detroit motor show in January 2009. And that’s it – alongside a solitary teaser photo that’s all we’re getting out of the Japanese automotive giant for now. But a source inside Toyota GB confirmed to CAR that this concept is not the new Prius, and that the production version of the infamous petrol-electric hybrid will debut alongside this EV concept.

Mazda Verisa

Mazda has refreshed the Verisa, a B-segment car sold in Japan. Based on the same platform as the Ford Fiesta, the Verisa is a tall hatchback that parallels the (European) Ford Fusion in concept, if not aesthetics. The Down-Road-Graphic has a clean contemporary look, with minimal grille area and restrained use of brightwork, while surfaces are given greater volume and a more substantial feeling than the Fusion.

The Industrial Designers Society of America's ‘Designing Innovation' panel discussion took place in San Francisco yesterday. The event was sponsored by Ford, with strategic design director, Freeman Thomas taking a place on the panel. Having parked a C-MAX Energi and new F-150 in the venue, Ford's influence weighed rather heavily, particularly in the early moments.
