Sta-Set X Plus

Parallel Core

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Sta-Set X Plus is constructed using New England Ropes patented parallel core design, using Vectran & Polypropylene fibers contained within a helically wrapped polyester tape and covered by a braided jacket of filament polyester. This construction creates a rope that is lighter weight and lower stretch than a similar 100% polyester ropes.

FEATURES:

  • Very low elongation
  • High Strength
  • Abrasion Resistant
  • Low water absorption
  • Excellent Wet/dry strength retention
  • Torque-free non-hockling
  • Renders well on blocks and sheaves

APPLICATIONS:

  • Halyards
  • Guys
  • Main & Genoa sheets

Compliance to the above specifications is based upon testing according to the Cordage Institute Standard Testing Methods for Fiber Rope and/or ASTM D-4268 Standard Methods of Testing Fiber Ropes.
Weights - Are average and may vary +/- 5%
Tensile strengths - Are approximate average for new, unused ropes. To estimate the minimum tensile strength of a new rope, reduce the approximate average by 15% (Cordage Institute defines minimum tensile strength as two standard deviations below the average tensile strength of the rope).

WORKING ELONGATION

SUNLIGHT/UV:

Very little degradation from UV. Can be used outside over long term if inspected regularly.

CHEMICALS:

Good resistance to most minerals / organics, acids, weak alkalis, bleaches and other oxidizing agents and most solvents.

HEAT:

Melting point of Polyester 480°F, Polypropylene 330°F
Vectran melting point 625°F, progressive strength loss above 430°F

DIELECTRICS:

Good resistance to the passage of electrical current. However in rope form, dirt, surface contaminants, water entrapment and the like can significantly affect dielectric properties. Extreme caution should be exercise any time a rope is in the proximity of live circuits.

SHEAVES:

Recommended D/d ratio is 8:1

WORKING LOADS:

No blanket working load recommendation can be made because it depends on the application and conditions of use, especially potential danger to personnel. It is recommended that the user establish working loads and safety factors based on professional and experienced assessments of risks. The working load is a guideline for the use of a rope in good condition for non-critical applications and should be reduced where life, limb, or valuable property is involved. Or exceptional service such as shock, sustained loading, severe vibration, etc. The Cordage Institute specifies that the Safe Working Load of a rope shall be determined by dividing the Minimum Tensile Strength by the Safety Factor. Safety factors range from 5 to 12 for non-critical uses, 15 for life lines.

SLK= Minimum Break Strength / Safety Factor

COATING:

Can be Urethane coated to improve abrasion resistance, UV resistance, to crate a water barrier and to provide color coding.

New Opel/Vauxhall Astra saloon revealed – but not for the UK

Wed, 06 Jun 2012

The new Astra with a boot has been revealed but it’s not heading for the UK. It will, however, be offered in Germany and Spain. The hatchback has taken over the car world in recent years when it comes to family cars (although we could see the crossover / compact SUV supplant it before long), which has meant the demise of the traditional saloon, certainly in the UK market.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee S-Limited launches

Thu, 18 Oct 2012

Jeep has revealed a limited edition Grand Cherokee with the looks of the SRT8 but without the price or outright power – the new Jeep Grand Cherokee S-Limited. Reports of the death of the SUV have been greatly exaggerated in recent years, and the whole SUV sector – from compact to full size – still holds a lot of appeal for buyers. And when it comes to full size SUVs few do it any better than Jeep – certainly as far as off-road experience goes – even if previous versions of their full size Grand Cherokee have been a bit below European standards in terms of materials and on-road ability.
