2011 BMW X3 leaks
Fri, 04 Jun 2010The 2011 BMW X3 - together with required camouflage To say that details have leaked is a bit disingenuous, as the leak has emanated from BMW. So although technically I suppose we should call it a leak because the details are not exactly concrete – and the photos are of camouflaged cars – it’s more of a tease than a leak. The photos tell us not a huge amount – it’s a new BMW X3 with some black and white bits on.
Jaguar Land Rover to build cars in China
Sun, 09 Sep 2012Jaguar Land Rover has revealed it is going to build cars in China, starting with either the Freelander 2 or Evoque. Jaguar Land Rover has revealed that it going to build cars outside the UK for the first time (as opposed to re-assembling Freelander 2 CKD kits as it does in India) in a plant just north of Shanghai. As this is China, official permission from the Chinese government is required, but with the joint venture between Chery and JLR now official its seems unlikely to be a problem as JLR will already have agreed to Chery producing JLR cars with Chery badges on.
Video: Chris Bangle delivers “Empowerment: Design without Designers” talk at Creative Mornings/London
Wed, 09 Nov 2011Chris Bangle – the undisputed front man of car design – needs little introduction, so the prospect of the former BMW Design Director and now founder of Chris Bangle Associates giving a talk in our home town of London was too good to pass up. His presentation (which you can watch in full in the video to the left) touched on his time at BMW, but was more focused on the idea of empowering others to create: "design without you in the middle", as Bangle says. From the story of the co-creation of the staircase in his Italian studio to the idea of encouraging people to think about their culture when designing, his philosophies transcend disciplines.
