2012 Mercedes SLK55 WILL get 5.5 litre V8
Wed, 20 Jul 20112012 Mercedes SLK55 to get naturally aspirated 5.5 litre V8 (2011 SLK photo) You never really know until it’s officially announced, but we did expect the 2012 Mercedes SLK55 to get the new 5.5 litre V8. When Mercedes revealed the new SLK back in January, we knew there were still two more versions to come for 2012 – the SLK55 and the Diesel SLK – and that we’d get the official details later. Well, now it’s later – at least for the SLK55.
Volvo Emissions Equality Campaign – Great move
Thu, 15 Jul 2010The Volvo V70 - less polluting than a Fiat 500 Whenever we get the opportunity – as regular readers will know – we complain about the current obsession with CO2 emissions on cars and call for car makers and Governments to act on the emissions which actually matter – NOx, hydrocarbons and particulates (and here, and here, and here and…). And it looks like Volvo agrees. Volvo are launching the ‘Emissions Equality Campaign to get car buyers to consider the whole picture when it comes to car emissions and not just look at the figure for CO2, which buyers have been brainwashed in to thinking matters (our view of CO2 – not Volvo’s).
Jaguar Land Rover to spend additional £250 million a year with UK suppliers
Fri, 11 May 2012JLR to spend and extra £1 billion with UK suppliers The Range Rover Evoque phenomenon continues with Jaguar Land Rover announcing an extra £250 million additional annual spend with UK suppliers. Just last week we had the news that Land Rover’s Freelander 2 had hit sales of 300,000 since its launch in 2007, but if the Range Rover Evoque continues selling the way it has that figure will be eclipsed in half the time by the Evoque. And it’s sales of the Evoque – Land Rover has sold 60,000 Evoques in the first seven months on sale – that’s driving the need to spend more with suppliers and the announcement today that UK suppliers can look forward to an extra £250 million a year being spent to support the Evoque’s production at Halewood.
