JCB sets new diesel land speed record
Tue, 22 Aug 2006By Greg Fountain Motor Industry 22 August 2006 05:50 The JCB Dieselmax has broken the diesel land speed record, posting an official, FIA-approved speed of 328.767mph. During the first run along the Bonneville Salt Flats course on 22 August, the 1500bhp Dieselmax touched 324.24mph.The pit crew then turned the streamliner around on a turntable and prepped it for the second run. On the return, JCB's diesel-powered racer hit 333.339mph.
Bentley 6¾ litre V8 to end production – Diesels & Hybrid on the way
Fri, 17 Aug 2012Bentley’s outgoing boss has revealed Bentley are planning to drop their trademark 6¾ litre V8 and introduce hybrid and diesel options. Bentley’s famed 6¾ litre V8 engine – in production since 1959, although it didn’t grow to 6¾ litre until 1970 - is as much a USP for Bentley as the badge and the history. BMW tried to bring production of the old iron lump to an end in 1998 – replacing it with a characterless BMW 4.4 litre V8 – but it was back a year later when VW took over as the motivation for the Red Label Arnage – and it’s stayed ever since.
Tesla to work with others, Roadster priced at £92k

The established car makers will use the experience Tesla has gained developing the high-performance, £92,000 Roadster as a short cut to getting their own electric cars on sale. 'Smaller Teslas in the pipeline' Tesla plans to have its Model S five-seat electric hatchback on sale by 2010 in both the United States and Europe.
