Twenty years ago, the classic bargain brands like Lada seemed to be going the same way as the Soviet empire that spawned them. Woefully dated and badly made, only a weirdo would have bought a new Lada rather than a second-hand model from Ford, Vauxhall or VW. However, one of the big trends in the car industry today is the re-emergence of bargain cars.

As if having the talent to race a Formula One car wasn’t enough, it turns out that some of our favourite F1 stars are pretty handy with a camera, too. Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSHCC) is set to benefit from a second Zoom Photographic Charity Auction, which includes signed examples of pictures taken by F1 drivers and team principles during the 2013 season. Perhaps this was inevitable, since Aston’s new non-executive chairman is David Richards - the chairman of Prodrive, which develops the DBR9 and its FIA GT3-spec sister car, the DBRS9. The team will face a tough challenge, though, as the 24-hour Le Mans is the only race that Aston Martin Racing will compete in this year.
