As Jaguar confirmed its new F-type sports car at the 2012 New York auto show, it issued some teaser video footage of the new £55,000 roadster landing in showrooms in spring 2013. Jag ambassador and former racer Martin Brundle hitches a lift with the company's chief dynamics engineer Mike Cross for a few hot laps in the F-type prototype around its handling circuit at Gaydon. We can safely ignore the hyperbole poring forth ('It's responsive, it's a great car to drive') but it's a good chance to see the all-aluminium F-type in action.

The Mercedes CLA 45 AMG – Mercedes 4-door swoopy coupe version of the A45 AMG – has been officially revealed at the 2013 New York Auto Show. There was a time when smallish, powerful, four-door cars were a big deal, but as time has gone on that’s changed, with only the Japanese left to fly the flag. Now, with the demise of the WRX, that’s ending too.

Audi reveals the new A1 Sportback 5 Door With almost two years of sales of the ‘Only Premium Car in its Class’ (Audi’s assertion), Audi has revealed the more practical version of its smallest car – the five-door Audi A1 Sportback. Visually, the five-door A1 looks just the same as the three-door A1 – with the obvious addition of a pair of back doors – but Audi has managed to 6mm in height and width which, they say, improves room in the back. Which it may, but as the length and wheelbase remain the same it won’t do anything for legroom.
