Bugatti’s 254mph Veyron Vitesse officially world’s fastest drop-top
Thu, 11 Apr 2013The Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse has been officially confirmed as the world’s fastest open-top production car, having been clocked at 254.04mph. The milestone will be celebrated (naturally) with a limited run of special ‘World Record Edition’ Grand Sport Vitesses (which has been on sale since January 2012), with the commemorative cars sporting orange flashes to the carbonfibre bodywork, and orange wheels. Chevrolet to restore Covettes damaged in sinkhole disaster
Fri, 14 Feb 2014Though we're very happy that no one was hurt when a sinkhole opened up beneath the Bowling Green, Ky. National Corvette Museum, the fate of the eight Corvettes damaged in the cave-in remained has remained unclear. Photos and footage of the incident show a few cars sitting on top of the rubble at the bottom of the 40-foot wide, 25 to 30-foot deep pit; others are presumably pinned under the debris.
Ford's automotive assembly line celebrates 100th anniversary
Wed, 09 Oct 2013A mere century ago, on Oct. 7, 1913, Henry Ford rigged up a rope tow to get Model T chassis across the floor of his Highland Park assembly plant -- essentially winching cars across the factory floor and adding a set schedule of parts at certain intervals. The implementation may have been a bit primitive, but Ford was on the cusp something big: applying the concepts of the moving assembly line to the complicated, costly process of automobile production.
