Wed, 06 Aug 2014The new Land Rover Discovery Sport testing ahead of launch With the new Land Rover Discovery Sport expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October – and be on sale in early 2015 – Land Rover are busy testing it through its final development stage. That’s meant some pretty rigorous shakedowns going on, with a total of 181 prototype Discovery Sports covering 750,000 miles and completing 11,000 test at locations around the world, from extremes of hot and cold to all points in between. But instead of just giving us the test numbers, some new photos (above) and new video (below) of the new Disco Sport, Land Rover are taking the opportunity to big up their partnership with Virgin Galactic and the similarities in the two company’s aims and objectives with their projects.

Mind you, with over 800,000 Porsche 911s produced since the first 911 arrived in 1963, it will have been a lot easier to find 911s than it was Ferraris. We’ve reported umpteen times on Land Rover’s order book for the Range Rover Evoque, and how the stylish new entry-level Range Rover has scored a direct hit with buyers, And that’s now translating in to even more jobs at Land Rover, just nine months after Evoque production started. JLR has announced the creation of 1,000 extra jobs at their Halewood plant on Merseyside to try and keep pace with the burgeoning order book not just for the Range Rover Evoque, but also for the Freelander 2 which is also being created as CKDs for shipping to India.
