The Geely GE at Shanghai - Geely deny copying the Phantom! Last month, long before the Shanghai Motor Show kicked off, we brought you a story on the Geely GE, a Rolls Royce Phantom rip off (or homage, if you prefer) which certainly made us smile. It was so blatant, but at the same time to crass, we couldn’t help but laugh.

BMW and Pininfarina to show Gran Lusso Coupé concept at Villa d'Este

BMW and Pininfarina have collaborated on a concept car – the Gran Lusso Coupé – for the 2013 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Previewed in these teaser images, the gloriously glamorous-sounding Gran Lusso (lusso being Italian for ‘luxury') appears to fuse BMW iconography – the front fender vent, Hofmeister kink DLO and horizontal rear lamp treatment – with a little more Latin flair with a rocker that flicks up the rear lamp and joins the shoulder line. The full-width rear lamps also promise to be suitably exotic.

Built by Italian chassis developer Dallara and powered by a Nismo engine, the new 2014 Trophy racer looks likely to have impressive performance figures and, judging by Renault’s teaser picture, just as impressive styling. Adding to the racing pedigree is a 1,100kg weight, seven-speed sequential gearbox by Sadev and specially created Michelin tyres.
