Italian firm buys stake in Aston Martin
Fri, 07 Dec 2012The former owner of Italian motorcycle maker Ducati has bought a 37.5-percent stake in financially strapped British car maker Aston Martin. The move means future Astons could use modern drivelines and electric architectures from Mercedes-Benz's AMG division, insiders with knowledge of the deal suggest. Private equity fund Investindustrial has signed a memorandum of understanding with current Aston Martin owner Investment Dar of Kuwait that will see it pay $240 million (150 million pounds) for the ownership stake.

Named the Duster, the concept was designed as an image booster for Dacia, which makes the low-cost Logan car. The design concepts exhibited by the 17 graduating students explore themes for future mobility, including: A public bike using new plastic forming technologies, a three-wheeled motorcycle for Aprilia, and a mobile living space that solves the probems of commuting by moving the home close to the workplace. Heung Soo Kim's coupe concept explores 'light as communication', with intuitive gestural driver controls, simplified instrumentation using color-coded indicators and exterior lamp elements embedded within the vehicle's glass surfaces.
