Concept Car of the Week: Mazda RX500 (1970)
Thu, 30 Jan 2014Developed by the Toyo Kogyo Company's advanced design and engineering team, the Mazda RX-500 was described as a ‘mobile test bed for high-speed safety'. Looking at its design, the team's childlike enthusiasm has shone through, resulting in a very cool concept. From the rakish front to the wraparound windscreen and on to the bread van rear, everything communicates high-tech and ‘70's futurism while also channeling a little of the Star Wars X-Wing. Thanks to plastic body panels, the concept weighs only 850kg and is powered by a 491cc rotary engine delivering 247bhp fitted behind the cabin, in front of the rear axle.
Greenpeace goes galactic on Volkswagen's Super Bowl ad
Wed, 29 Jun 2011UPDATE: Some in the office (and in the comments) were wondering how Greenpeace got permission to use Lucasfilm footage in their parody. It appears they didn't, and the video has been pulled from YouTube due to claims of copyright infringement. We'll post an edited version when and if it becomes available.
Ford gets another NO on Volvo
Thu, 05 Feb 2009And the beat goes on… Ford has been trawling the world’s car manufacturers (and Governments) for what seems like forever, in an increasingly desperate attempt to off-load its Swedish subsidiary, Volvo. They appear to have tried everyone from the Swedish Government to BMW and Mercedes, with a fair dose of Chinese firms in between (has Ford offered to sell it to you yet? Don’t worry, it won’t be long!) And now Reuters are reporting that yet another Chinese Car Co has declined the offer.
