Dramatic CCTV footage shows consequences of tyre failure
Wed, 23 Oct 2013AS A PART of October's Tyre Safety Month initiative the Highways Agency have released dramatic footage of the consequences of tyre failure. In the clip, viewable on the Highways Agency YouTube channel, motorway cameras capture the moment a front tyre explodes on a large lorry, sending it out of control and into the central reservation in a spectacular crash. Further clips show the chaos caused when all three lanes of a motorway are closed to retrieve tyre debris, and the eye-watering £2 million cost of a lorry fire caused by tyre failure results in all six lanes of a motorway being shut for hours.
Ford warms up new era of car-guy leaders
Thu, 01 Nov 2012A minor temblor shook Dearborn, Mich., today with the announcement that Mark Fields, president of the Americas, climbed the golden corporate ladder to grab the chief operating officer ring, setting him up to succeed Alan Mulally in a couple of years. The move did not come as a shock-it only confirmed the whispers of auto industry Royal Watchers. The biggest news for those who care about cars, however, is two-fold: Jim Farley, Ford's global marketing boss, also takes the helm of Lincoln.
Infiniti Emerg-E was a Lotus Evora 414E under the skin
Sat, 28 Apr 2012Infiniti Emerg-E - it's a Lotus Evora under the skin The Infiniti Emerg-E from the Geneva Motor Show was actually a Lotus Evora 414E under the skin making production more likely. One of the stars of the Geneva Motor Show in March was the stunningly good looking Infiniti Emerg-E, a range-extender sports car from Nissan’s posh arm offering 402bhp from a pair of electric motors and a range-extending 1.2 litre 3-cylinder engine. We knew at Geneva that the 3-cylinder range-extender engine came from Lotus – no surprise as they’ve also supplied the same engine to Jaguar for testing in the XJ Limo Green Hybrid – but what we didn’t know (although we should have worked it out) was that under the skin the Infiniti Emerg-E was actually a Lotus Evora.
