Alfa's U.S. return likely for 2012, Marchionne says

Fiat's on-again, off-again plan to return Alfa Romeo to the United States is on again, this time with a target date of 2012. A Chrysler Group spokesman has confirmed remarks made by CEO Sergio Marchionne in Toronto. “I'm a lot more confident now that Alfa Romeo will reconstitute a product offering that is acceptable globally, and more in particular in the United States and Canada,” Marchionne was quoted as saying Friday.

Telematics discounts tempting young drivers

INCREASING numbers of young drivers are opting-in to telematics-based car insurance in attempt to reduce their premiums. Specialist young driver insurer Carrot has reported a 62% rise in the number of its policyholders choosing to have a telematics device, consisting of accelerometers and a GPS tracker, fitted to their car. The company says that they could save up to 20% on their annual insurance premium, which for the youngest drivers almost always amounts to a discount of hundreds of pounds.

Porsche Panameras recalled for seatbelt fix

Porsche is recalling all 11,300 units of the 2010 Panamera to fix a problem with the front seatbelts. According to Porsche, the Panamera's seatbelt mounts could fail in a crash when the front seats are in the full forward position. No injuries have been reported.
