One Lap of the Web: The ABCs of Indy
Fri, 30 May 2014-- Indy is full of tradition, and ABC is full of Indy. Having covered the Indy 500 for the past half-century, ABC is as "back home again" as Jim Nabors and milk and the forthright assumption that the Indianapolis 500 is the Greatest Spectacle in Racing -- a tagline announcer Charlie Brockman introduced to the world -- which it is. -- How do you design brakes that can stop a 1,000-mph car?
Cadillac ELR – a posh Chevy Volt: 2013 Detroit Auto Show
Tue, 15 Jan 2013The Cadillac ELR – a range extender Cadillac with the running gear from the Chevrolet Volt – has been revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Joining the Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall Ampera as the third version of GM’s range-extender pitch at the EV market, the two-door Cadillac ELR is a convincing looking offering with swoopy looks, wheels at the corners, a great big nose (that can close for better aerodynamics), dramatic LED headlights, steeply raked screen and lots of sharp creases. The interior of the ELR looks as appealing as the exterior, with lashings of decent leather, digital instruments, Bose sound with noise cancellation, carbon inserts and even powered cupholders.
MINI Speedster back on the cards
Tue, 07 Apr 2009Mini Speedster from 2001 - looks set to form the basis of a new MINI Speedster Based on the MINI platform, the Speedster version was talked about as long ago as 2001, but never made it to production on the first MINI platform. But perhaps having now covered just about every variant they can think of, BMW has decided that now is the time to revive the car and get it in to production. Small Roadsters, in the vein of the old British open-topped 2 seater ( and its modern ‘Homage’ version – the MX-5) will, I’m sure, see something of a renaissance in the next few years as people start to turn away from big, profligate cars, but still seek some fun motoring.
