New Images: Mercedes Unimog concept
Wed, 15 Jun 2011Mercedes-Benz's Special Trucks unit (MBS) recently revealed a design study celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Unimog at the Daimler plant in Wörth, Germany. Called simply '60 Years Unimog', the concept is said to inform the future form language of Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle design. Developed jointly by the MBS development team, the Daimler commercial vehicle designers in Sindelfingen and a model designing partner, the Unimog concept was inspired by the poison dart frog, a natie of Central and South America.
Geneva motor show: 2010 Saab 9-3x crossover debuts

Beginning with a 9-3 SportCombi wagon, Saab engineers raise ride height by 1.4 inches, add the XWD all-wheel-drive system that we first saw on the Turbo X and pump up the exterior styling. According to Saab, the 9-3X provides customers with the perfect alternative to large crossovers and SUVs, while offering respectable utility and off-road capabilities.

Mon, 14 Nov 2011Real-time visualization software is transforming the speed and ease with which design teams can develop interior proposals, saving time and money in the process, as Lumiscaphe's visualization designer and Eagle Ottawa China's Design Director of the Asia Pacific region discussed with Car Design News. "Until very recently we relied purely on flat and trimmed leather samples and photography when visiting clients," explains Erik Vogas, Eagle Ottawa China's Director of Design, Marketing and Innovation in Shanghai. "Physical samples are always the most compelling, but we are also impacted by the timing and cost constraints of creating those samples.
