Civic hybrid tests Honda's new strategy
Mon, 06 Jun 2011Despite being the first to sell an electric-gasoline car in the United States and making hybrid technology a centerpiece of its fuel economy push, Honda Motor Co. has yet to have a hybrid hit. But the redesigned Civic Hybrid, launched April 20, is the first test of whether Honda's new strategy of tapping lithium ion batteries and, later, two-motor systems can break the streak.
Bruce Meyer: A good guy gets recognition
Tue, 03 Jan 2012Bruce Meyer, one of the best ambassadors of the collector-car hobby, will be honored as an "Automotive Icon" at the 30th anniversary of the Dana Point Concours d'Elegance, June 23-24, 2012, in Dana Point, Calif. Meyer's list of boosterism for the car hobby is long and impressive. He was the founding chairman of the Petersen Automotive Museum and founder of the museum's support group the Checkered Flag 200, he was inducted into the Dry Lakes Hall of Fame and the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame, and he has driven in the Italian Mille Miglia, the French Tour Auto, the Goodwood Festival of Speed and on the Bonneville Salt Flats in the United States.
La Dolce Vita won't return to Monterey in 2010
Tue, 26 Jan 2010La Dolce Vita, the second big Italian-car event of the Big Monterey Weekend, will not return for 2010. First, some background: La Dolce Vita came about when Concorso Italiano, the longtime favorite of Italian-car lovers at Monterey, moved from the Black Horse Golf Club to an airport north of Monterey two years ago. The airport location was panned by attendees for its cold, windswept concrete and general lack of character.
