WHEELBASE: 103-1/2 IN. WEIGHT: 2,106 LBS. TIRES: 30 X 4.50 MANUFACTURER: Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Michigan The sassy Modal A was Henry Ford's gift to America on December 2, 1928. It looked like a baby Lincoln and had features previously found only on high-priced automobiles. Rounded radiator shells, high radiator caps and full-crown fenders characterized seven models priced from $385. Equipment included hydraulic shock absorbers, safety glass and a peppy engine good for 60 mph. The Sport Roadster, with a rumbleseat, sold for $420. Ford achieved an engineering miracle by developing the Model A in only 18 months. Over four years, more than five million sold. Survivors have become the most popular collector cars.
