Up for auction is a set of all-original Model A headlight buckets; lenses; reflectors; rims; and the bar!  I bought these in 1969 for my 1930 Model A Coupe – had to sell the car for money to stay in school and kept these as my souvenir of the car.  This unit has some good original parts for the restorer – or it could be a great gift for the gear-head’s man-cave (see last photo all lit up)!

Details:

Lenses - Two original Ford oval script lenses; no cracks; one very small chip on the 4 O’clock tab of one of the lenses (not visible with rim on).  One lens has #”1” below the word “TOP” and the other has #“6” in the same position.  I used to know what that meant, but have forgotten now.

Reflectors – both are solid brass; both have all original plating – one is more worn and discolored(?) than the other; all light sockets are still tight in the reflector bodies; I polished the fronts and backs of these (~44 years ago) and it looks like I clear-lacquered the brass backs so they wouldn’t oxidize again.

Buckets – both are original Ford script “TWOLITE HEADLAMP” steel (not stainless steel) headlight bucket bodies; one is chrome-plated – the other is bare steel (with removable corrosion); bucket mounting hardware is corroded; interior of one was primed (by me) – the other interior is bare and corroded; the bowl of the chromed bucket has dents and ripples(?) in it – the bare steel bucket bowl appears to be perfectly shaped (no dents or ripples)

Rims – stainless steel; both have retainer hardware (rusted shafts); both have dents; one has a small split – functional, but not restored

Bar – I sanded; primed; and painted this at the time, but it’s not restoration quality.  It is bent in the center section (see photos), but as an original piece it might be worth straightening and restoring properly.

Measures 43¼" wide x 12" tall x 5½" deep

Subaru Forester tops small SUVs in new crash test

Thu, 16 May 2013

The Subaru Forester and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport have won top honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, becoming the only small SUVs to ace the group's new "small overlap" crash test. The Forester, which Subaru redesigned for the 2014 model year, earned Top Safety Pick+ accolades by scoring a "good" rating on the small overlap test, in which the front corner of the vehicle on the driver's side strikes a five-foot-tall barrier at 40 mph. "With the redesigned Forester, Subaru's engineers set out to do well in our new test, and they succeeded," Joe Nolan, vice president for vehicle research at IIHS, said in a statement.
