Avoiding the California Highway Patrol on the Autoweek America Adventure
Sun, 30 Oct 2011"Damn revenuers," said Tommy Kendall. "They are draped all along the side of the road." He spoke, of course, about the California Highway Patrol, whose strategically positioned cars--and subsequent laser-detection devices and KA-band radar--were lighting up this two-lane south of Klamath Falls, Ore., less than two miles inside the state line. Geneva Show 2014: Hot Audi S1 arrives
Wed, 05 Mar 2014ONE OF THE smallest cars on the Audi stand at the Geneva Motor Show was also grabbing the most attention, as the German firm unveiled the new S1. Based on the A1, the smallest Audi in the range, the S1 also takes inspiration from the strictly limited edition A1 Quattro that appeared in 2012. Packing a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine under its compact bonnet it is comfortably the fastest A1 in production, with a top speed limited to 155mph and 0-62mph taking 5.8 seconds.
Akio Toyoda waves family flag, heir makes crisis personal challenge
Wed, 24 Feb 2010The reclusive Akio Toyoda is taking the rare step of waving the family flag, as the scion to Toyota Motor Corp.’s founding dynasty tries to steer the world’s largest car company out of a spiraling safety crisis. In testimony prepared for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, President Toyoda pursues a rare personal tack on the emergency, saying “my name is on every car.” “As you well know, I am the grandson of the founder, and all the Toyota vehicles bear my name,” Toyoda says in prepared comments circulated ahead of Wednesday’s committee hearing in Washington. “For me, when the cars are damaged, it is as though I am as well.” The intimate reflection is a departure for Toyoda, who has spent most of his career sidestepping public discussion of his lineage.
