Back in 2006 Renault was still well into its design-leadership stride, if perhaps not for much longer. The Altica concept, shown at that year's Geneva motor show, showcased all the French brand had to offer at that time – a brilliantly brave, architectural interior, a style that could only be associated with its country of origin and an interior that thoroughly questioned and readdressed layout, control and format. It also served to preview the renaissance of the Shooting Brake that the industry is still experiencing.

HOT On the heels of the critically acclaimed F-Type Roadster, Jaguar has unveiled the hardtop version: the F-Type Coupe. Wowing audiences at both Los Angeles and Tokyo motor shows, the tin-top version of the British luxury car builder’s new model is expected to hit UK showrooms next March. The car, styled by long standing Jaguar design boss Ian Callum, gains the same V6 petrol motor as the Roadster, however there’s a tweaked V8 for the flagship F-Type R boasting a considerable 542bhp.

Hongik University wins 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest

Seoul's Hongik University scooped first place honors in the 2011 Ferrari World Design Contest. 50 highly prestigious universities developed designs for Ferrari's cars of the future, and students from the Korean school beat the second-placed Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin, Italy, in the final while London's Royal College of Arts (RCA) finished in third place. The ‘Eternità', developed by Kim Cheong Ju, Ahn Dre and Lee Sahngseok, was the winning design for Hongik University, while Azerbaijan's Samir Sadikhov, studying at IED, earned him second place with the ‘Xezri'.
