CAR 20 Most Wanted of 2014: VW Golf R
Tue, 17 Dec 2013By the CAR editorial team First Official Pictures 17 December 2013 15:00 Everyone knows the Golf GTI: fun, practical, affordable, understated, it’s the default hot hatch. The Golf R is more complex: unravel its DNA and you’ll find traces of the four-wheel drive, supercharged Mk2 Rallye, the front-drive Mk3 VR6 with its 2.8-litre V6 and leather interior, the Mk4 and Mk5 four-wheel-drive R32 and the Mk6 R that ditched the potent V6 for a punchier, more fuel-efficient turbo four. It’d be a nightmare of a custody battle.
Land Rover Freelander 2 Sport (2010) launched
Wed, 16 Dec 2009The 2010 Land Rover Freelander 2 Sport launches in January The latest Freelander is a very good car. A million miles away from the first Freelander it is well built, comfortable, roomy and does a very good imitation of a decent estate car on road, but still has the ability to cope with the rough stuff much more convincingly than the vast majority of the competition. But moving metal is about offering the buyer something extra.
Nissan BladeGlider EV Sports Car Concept for Tokyo Motor Show
Fri, 08 Nov 2013The Nissan BladeGlider EV Sports Car Concept (pictured) will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show Nissan are trying to push the envelope for road-going electric cars with the BladeGlider electric car concept that will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this month and looks – at least in some form – to be heading for production. Inspired by the aero industry – and taking inspiration from Nissan’s DeltWing Project – the BladeGlider gets a very narrow front track and a much wider rear, wrapped in carbon fibre reinforced plastic with an interior that offers a 1+2 seating arrangement. Nissan say the extremely narrow front track reduces drag and enhances manoeuvrability for extreme cornering, and its 30/70 rear-biased weight distribution could give plenty of tail-out fun.
