NHTSA may investigate Grand Cherokees over fuel-tank fire hazard

The Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 1993 to 2004 model years may be investigated by federal safety regulators after a complaint that its fuel tank is an exposed fire hazard that may have contributed to hundreds of deaths. Last month the nonprofit Center for Auto Safety complained that the SUV's fuel tank extends below the rear bumper and is inadequately protected from crashes and rollovers. The vehicle's fuel filler neck also tears off in crashes, said the center's petition for an investigation and recall.

Following the unveiling of the SAV concept at Geneva last year comes the production version, the S-MAX. Sharing much in common with the new Galaxy, the S-Max aims to have greater dynamic appeal and retain a closer connection with Ford of Europe's 'Kinetic Design' ethos. Qoros’s first production model – the Qoros 3 – arrived in production guise at Geneva this year as a convincing – if generic -looking – four-door saloon, which we did think an odd route to go to break in to Europe. But the next Qoros – previewed here in a couple of teaser photos – looks to be a production version of the Qoros Cross Hybrid Concept Qoros showed at Geneva and a much better route to grabbing a slice of Europe’s car sales.
